Mike Wallace finished with 7 catches for 82 yards and a TD in a game Miami HAD to win.
Brian Hartline finished the day with 9 catches for 127 yards and a TD in a game Miami HAD to win.
And finally, Charles Clay finished the day with 7 catches for 80 yards in a game..
You get the point.
It didn't matter how pretty it was, or what the final score was. All that mattered today when the dust settled was that the Dolphins emerged victorious.
23-3.
After a first half dominated by Miami, and their lack of scoring, the Fins put it together in the second half, out scoring the Jets, and new QB Matt Simms, 17-3.
And this one was never really in doubt. Just take a look:
Mia total yards: 453
Jets total yards: 177
Mia first downs: 25
Jets first downs: 10
Mia TOP: 38:52
Jets TOP: 21:08
You get the picture.
The defense dominated. Olivier Vernon had 2.5 sacks and leads the team with 10.
Brent Grimes had an INT. So did Dannell Ellerbe.
The offense moved the ball all day long, and even out rushed the Jets. Yes, the top ranked rushing defense gave up more yards than the 25th ranked rush defense.
Let that sink in.
The Dolphins now sit at 6-6, tied with the Ravens for the final playoff spot.
With Tennesseee losing, a Chargers win would move Miami into the final wild card spot.
How?
Miami, San Diego, and Baltimore would all be 6-6, with the Dolphins winning the tie breaker.
If San Diego loses, Miami and Baltimore would be the lone teams at 6-6 with the Ravens owning the tie breaker.
Double edged sword, huh?
The Fins head to Pittsburgh next week.
More to come.
