Yes, I know, the blog has been slacking as of late. But hey, a guy's gotta work!
Don't worry, I'll write out a nice, juicy recap of the week to this point to make it up to you guys.
I know, you're excited! And you should be. Lets do it:
- The Fins signed WR Julius Pruitt in the wake of Armon Binns' season ending ACL tear. It's a shame, because Binns was looking good and appeared to be a shoe in for a roster spot. You may hear Pruitt's name and think it sounds familiar. Well, you're right. If you remember he was a Miami Dolphin at this point a season ago before getting cut.
- Here are my (condensed) observations from the team's scrimmage on Monday night:
- Ryan Tannehill put on a show, throwing 3 TD's and showing good accuracy and quick decision making along the way. We should all be excited about this, but lets remember, it was still a controlled scrimmage.
- Dustin Keller and Charles Clay looked good, with both catching TD passes. I've said it all along, Keller will have a big year if he can stay healthy.
- Olivier Vernon, along with the rest of the defensive line, looked in midseason form. Sacks galore, folks. This is both good, and troubling. Sacks have been a disturbing trend thus far for the Fins offensive line, and it's becoming clear that, if this team does not succeed this year, the O-line will play a major factor. John Jerry is recovering from minor surgery, and Jonathan Martin has struggled. This line is shaky at best right now, and will need to be monitored going forward.
-WR's Brian Hartline and Mike Wallace did NOT participate in the scrimmage. Hartline apparently injured his calf during warm ups. We still don't know why Wallace did not participate. Neither did much during practice today either.
- WR's Marvin McNutt and Bryan Tyms are getting some first team reps, and making the most out of them. Tyms had a good practice today, catching a couple deep balls, and with Binns done and Richard Matthews hurt, you've got to think WR is wide open right now for these two.
- CompWatch Alert: It would seem that Dimitri Patterson has overtaken the starting CB role from Richard Marshall. Patterson has been the starting CB for a couple days now, and has been impressive. IF you remember, Patterson was a nice mid season pick up last year, and it seems to be evolving into something more concrete this year. Obviously this will be one of the big competitions to watch.
- Look out, because Dion Jordan may be coming for you, Olivier Vernon. The rookie has looked very, very solid so far, and seems to get better every day. He had two sacks today, and has been man handling the Fins starting O-line. Joe Philbin is slowly letting the kid do more and more, and the race to starting RDE seems to be ON between Jordan and Vernon.
- Caleb Sturgis kicked A LOT today, and he kicked well. Dan Carpenter has dominated this competition so far, but the rookie may be on the move.
- Another pick-6 for Philip Wheeler today. The defense is harping on more turnovers this season, and it has certainly shown.
- OG Lance Louis is getting close to full health. He did some work today with the first team O-line, but still seems to be at least a week away.
- Another good day of work for Tannehill today, as his accuracy continues to get better with each practice. It seems like the second year QB is hitting his stride as Sunday night approaches.
Sunday night, you ask?
Oh, that's just the first football game of the year between the Fins and Cowboys. Yeah, three days away, folks.
See you tomorrow.
